I’m embarrassed to say that I got out of the routine of blogging. So to get back into posting here is an amazing song by Robert Randolph. I really wish I could sing like the bass player. And let’s be honest I wish I could play anything as good as he plays the bass. He is the man.
Running Sound
September 2, 200911:17 am1 CommentTypically, I don’t like running sound. Most musicians are too picky. ”I need more guitar, now I need less, sorry but I need more again,” a cycle that will continue the entire night. My favorite is the musician that says “perfect” before you get the chance to change anything. (I’m sure these are all things that I have done). However, about a week ago, I got to play sound guy for a few minutes and really enjoyed it. I think it has to do with the control that I am able to have. To often I listen to live music and wish I could hear this part or that part just a little bit louder and when running sound I get to do just that. In short I think I might like to start running sound. Now if I could just find the time to actually run sound and somewhere to do it.
A Busy Week Musically
August 28, 200912:35 pm1 CommentLast Sunday I had the opportunity to lead worship for a small church in Auburn, Ca. The church leaders decided that every summer they would give their worship leaders the time off to rest and actually have a sabbath. Replacing those leaders they bring in a new guest group every Sunday. The entire congregation was excited to have us there and hopefully they had a great time of worship. As a side note, one of the pastors was from England and sounded very much like Turkish from Snatch. The deal was sealed when he said, “boxer.”
On Monday, with the same group from Sunday, I lead worship for The Gathering Inn, a homeless ministry that provides homeless people with dinner and a place to sleep. Churches in the area partner with The Gathering Inn and provide the organization with funds to keep the operation going as well as once a month they host the homeless shelter. It is a great way for a Churches to come together and provide for the homeless in the area. Along with dinner and a bed the people are led in a time of worship, given a brief devotional, watch movies, receive gift cards, plus whatever else the church wishes to provide. These people are truly appreciative that we came and gave of our time to lead this in a time of worship. Some people I could tell truly loved the Lord and it was a blessing to be there with them.
I will also be on the worship team at Bridgeway Christian Church this weekend which meant practice last night (Thursday), Saturday service, and Sunday service. It is a large time commitment but I know it is more of a commitment from Colette than me. I love this opportunity and would do it every week. I am especially excited about this week as I am playing with a small group (five) of guys who are extremely gifted and all around awesome. Five may not seem small but the team consists of Lead guitar/vocals, 2 percussionist, bass, and electric guitar/keys/vocals. Musically it will be awesome, hopefully the worship will be just as good.
And Lastly, tonight (friday) I am going to see Andy Gullahorn, Jill Phillips and The Music Room. There will be a post about this later because I think it is awesome what my friends are doing. All three groups/artists are amazing and this show promises to be a great time.
Sleepthief with Coury Palermo - World Gone Crazy (Audio Single)
June 27, 20099:46 pm1 CommentI just wanted to share with you guys the latest single from Coury Palermo and Sleepthief. I met Coury a few months ago now and think he is a great guy. I can’t say that this is my “style” of music that I typically enjoy, but I have great respect for Coury as a musician and must confess I like this new song. I think he is a stellar vocalist, songwriter, and lyricist. So here you go, I just thought I would share some new music you all (or y’all depending on where you are from).
King of Pop
June 25, 200910:52 pm1 CommentSo my plan was to put of video of Michael Jackson on here (just like everyone else), but youtube won’t let me embed the video so here is a link to one of my favorite MJ songs. I can’t tell you how many times I watched the video for this song growing up.
Vinyl
June 22, 20096:48 pm3 CommentsFor Father’s Day Colette and Bella gave me the newest Dave Matthews Band on vinyl. I was super excited. 1) I love Dave Matthews Band and 2) I love vinyl. Several years ago now, my mom gave me all of her old records and I fell in love. There is just something about listening to music on vinyl that makes it sound better and feel feel more authentic (at least when listening to music originally released on vinyl). To quote Empire Records, “some say it doesn’t make a difference. I say it’s the difference that makes it.” (Plus you can find some amazing deals on records. Music that would normally cost you at least $10 can be found for less than $1, depending on who it is and the quality of the case(?).)
So thanks to Colette and Bella, they are awesome.
John Mayer

Secret Window full movie I have always sort of liked John Mayer. His first couple of CD’s had some great pop songs on them. They were filled with catchy hooks and melodies, good lyrics, and some pretty good playing as well. I think I may have even purchased his first album. Then he came out with Continuum. For whatever reason Colette and I really wanted to buy the album. We hadn’t heard much of it, probably only Waiting On The World To Change
, but we went out and purchased the CD. Instantly I fell in love with the whole album. Now you may be wondering why on earth I am blogging about this now, after all this happened several years ago now. Recently John Mayer seems to be everywhere I turn. When we got home from vacation there was a John Mayer concert recorded (thanks Jordan). I have already watched it several times and it keeps getting better. Last night while watching my other new obsession, Conan, the John Mayer Trio was the musical guest. If you missed that here is a link, it was pretty stinking awesome. I am hoping that all of this t.v. time means a new album, anybody know?
p.s. just found his blog
Nashville

Yesterday morning the bus dropped us off at the Nashville airport. I have been here before but never spent any real time. It was basically drive in one day and leave the next. The more I am here the more I like the area. (Don’t worry I am not planning on moving out here). It is just what you think a small town in outside of Nashville would be. I am staying with Brody and Kristin download breakdown divx . Last night was spent eating burritos and watching some television. It was nice to hang out with Kristin and the boys as it has been almost two years since I saw them last.
Today has been filled with hanging out with Brody and Randy
, doing what they do which is basically go to meetings with people and sit on the computer. Fun, but I am not sure I could handle all of the meetings. I had yet another burrito, I am not sure if that means anything other than we like burritos. I just downloaded the new Jimmy Eat World and I am pretty excited about it. Clarity is one of my favorite albums and now I have the live version.
Not sure what the plans are for tomorrow, but I am hoping they involve hanging out with long time friend James. Who, by the way, should be blogging.
