After two months and two companies our camcorder finally came. This means that you will now be bored with videos of my baby, not just pictures. Aren’t you lucky?

In Heaven
July 13, 200910:00 am2 CommentsSo this won’t come with any great thoughts about what this means, it simply struck me as odd and something that I have never really thought of.
For my entire 20+ years of going to church, I pretty sure that I have always been taught that God is in heaven and that Satan is in Hell or at least not in Heaven with God. But this last Sunday our Pastor brought up a few interesting passages that seem to contradict this. The first come from Job.
Job 1:6 says, “One day the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them.” (Verse 2:1 says the same thing and if you continue to read through Job you realize that God and Satan have an ongoing conversation).
Zechariah 3:1-2a ”Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. The Lord said to Satan, ” The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem ,rebuke you!
Revelation 12:10 “Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: ”Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.”
Like I said this doesn’t have any life changing application, just something I found interesting.
p.s. all the verses are from the NIV
Day One (Sort Of)
July 11, 20099:39 pm3 CommentsI normally trim my beard about once a month. I like to keep it short and looking clean. I’m pretty sure it makes me look hot. Plus there comes a point where my skin goes into revolt and screams at me to trim the beard. The last few weeks has been one of those times. A chin that is itchy and sore is not fun. But because life keeps you busy, I have not had time to do the necessary trimming. While complaining about it today, Colette challenged me to grow out my beard until she can put it in two pony tails. Feeling up for it, I accepted said challenge. So today is day one. I mean it isn’t the start of the beard, just the start of the challenge. So for the next, however long it takes, I will be putting a picture of the glorious beard on here for you all to enjoy. Here is the first one.
p.s. If my lips look really red, I just put on some carmex. My lips were chapped and hurt real bad. Don’t judge me.

Bible Study: Mark
July 9, 200912:34 pm3 CommentsThis last Tuesday was the first night for a Bible study Colette and I will be starting together. The first day was more of a get together and hang out, introduce everybody and talk about the logistics of getting together. After this first week I am very excited about the study for several reasons.
This is going to be my first official group, structured bible study. So I am eager to jump in and see how things go. This is also going to be my first Bible study with Colette. I think we are both excited to learn and grow together. Also the people in the study are all awesome. I have spent some time with four of the people and really enjoying hanging out with them. The other two people, I have met once before and I am eager to get to know them more. We are all at different places in our lives and in our faith; we are all excited to engage and learn from each other, not just listen to “the leader.”
This is going to be a great study which means that I will have a lot of stuff to ponder through and write about on here.
He Is Our Joy
July 8, 200912:04 pm4 CommentsWhy do we lie to unbelievers? Accept Jesus as your savior and everything will be perfect. Your finances will be figured out, all of life’s problems will be erased. We try and sell Jesus as our personal problem solver. The problem is not everybody feels they need a personal problem solver. My pastor used this analogy: We are trying to get people to take a vaccine for a disease they don’t think they have. Why don’t we stop making God into something cheap and show the world who he really is.
In another direction, all of life’s problems are not erased. Christians get fatal diseases, we find cancer taking over our bodies, we get into car accidents, we lose our jobs and our houses. There are times when life is ridiculously hard and that is OK. A life free of strife was never promised to us. But the one thing we should have in these situations many of us (including me) is inexplicable joy. The world should see in us a joy that seemingly defy our situations because we have faith and are resting in the control of our God.
Again, hopefully there isn’t any blasphemy in here.
Customer Service
July 7, 20095:20 pm2 CommentsAdmittedly, this will not be a positive post. I am just annoyed at this company, so I thought I would vent a little and simultaneously warn you guys.
About two months ago, Colette and I decided that we were going to buy a camcorder for our little Bella Ruth. I did some research and found a great price at an online store called On Time Digital. I looked around and found nothing that said they were out of stock so I placed the order. Then nothing happened; no confirmation email, no shipment notification, no call, nothing. After a few days I went back to their site and discovered my camera was on back order. A little annoyed, I called and found out that the camera would be on back order for about a month. A little longer than I would have wanted, but it was such a great price.
Fast forward two months later to this morning. Still no camera, and their site still says it is on backorder. I call again. After about ten minutes of being on hold and hearing how important I am, I finally talk to a person.
“How long can I expect this back order to be?”
“Let me find out.”
And I’m back on hold, then disconnected. I call back, start holding and disconnected. One more try with the same result. An hour later I try again: disconnected. Colette calls from her phone and gets through on the first time with no problem. At this point, I had already found somewhere else to buy the camera, so Colette kindly cancelled the order. This time they sent me a confirmation email.
Why?
July 3, 200910:59 pm2 CommentsA couple of days ago in the news, there was the sad story of a husband who killed his wife. Fortunately, the kids were unharmed, at least physically. This little blurb on the news sort of brings up something that I can’t figure out. Why don’t we do more? The news story interviewed the neighbors and talked of family, they all knew that she was being abused. They all feared that this day would come yet nothing was done. Nothing could be done. Why do we wait until these women, who are too afraid to leave, brainwashed into believing they deserve the abuse, or don’t know any better, get up the strength and the courage to leave. I know that there are plenty of safe places for women to go and there are plenty of people willing to help, but many cases these women are unable to leave. Why can’t something be done?
If I beat the crap out of my neighbor on a consistent basis, I am sure the police would intervene. Yet, police can be called to a certain house repeatedly and they are helpless. Why can’t the law protect these women. People can sit and watch, knowing for a fact what goes on in a house, but they can do nothing but try and persuade the woman to leave.
I don’t pretend to have the answer, but I wish that I did.
